Omar Kadi is a testament to the transformative power of determination, resilience, and martial arts. Born in Syria and raised in Brooklyn, New York, his journey from a modest beginning to becoming the owner and head coach of Glory Martial Arts is nothing short of remarkable. Omar’s initial encounter with Brazilian jiu jitsu came 13 years ago, spurred by a desire to lead a healthier lifestyle. This led to a profound passion for the sport, resulting in a weight loss of 50lbs within his first year of training and 40lbs more in the coming years.
His martial arts voyage took him from earning a blue belt at a Renzo Gracie Academy in West Haven, Connecticut, to securing his first major competition medal under the guidance of Master Marcio Stambowsky. Omar’s dedication to the craft saw him winning numerous accolades, including a master’s world championship gold medals in the purple and numerous other titles. This winning streak continued as he advanced, securing titles across European, Pan Gi, NoGi pans and again 2x at the world championships at brown belt.
In December 2018, Omar’s relentless pursuit of excellence was rewarded with a black belt from the legendary Marcelo Garcia. Since then, Omar has not only competed and medaled at the most prestigious tournaments but has also shared his knowledge and passion for Jiu Jitsu through teaching seminars both in the US and abroad. His accomplishments include notable medals at many state Open’s, Pans NoGi, AJP Miami, Worlds NoGi 2021, a silver at the Masters World Championship in 2022, and Worlds NoGi in 2023.
Omar’s entrepreneurial spirit, honed through various ventures from owning cell phone stores to credit card processing services, shone brightly when he opened Glory Martial Arts. The academy has quickly become a cornerstone of the NYC martial arts community, boasting some of the most notable instructors in Muay Thai and BJJ. His leadership extends beyond the mats, as seen in the success of his 16-year-old son, Moussa, who has won over 40 gold medals, including every major Jiu Jitsu title in 2023.
